Peparnas XVI Papua Is Running Successfully

The 2021 National Paralympic Games (Peparnas) XVI Papua Organizing Committee (PB) ensures that Peparnas Papua is running successfully.

The statement was conveyed by the Daily Chairman of PB Perparnas, Doren Wakerkwa, after witnessing the swimming match at the Lukas Enembe Aquatic Center in Jayapura, Papua, Thursday (11/11/2021).

“Peparnas in Papua is a success. Although it is our first time (in holding such an event), and of course there are many obstacles, but overall, it’s very good,” said Doren.

This success, explained Doren, is seen from the enthusiasm and togetherness shown by athletes who competed in all sports in Peparnas.

As a matter of fact, this year’s Peparnas is held under safe and controlled conditions.

As we all know, this year’s Peparnas is a sporting event held in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Thus, same as the National Games (PON) XX Papua, strict health protocols are also enforced during the Peparnas XVI Papua.

Doren himself ensured that to this day none of the athletes and officials from all 33 provinces were exposed to COVID-19.

“Today, since the morning when I woke up, none of our para-athletes have been exposed by COVID-19. No one has contracted (with) the virus. That is remarkable,” he said.

Doren Wakerkwa also mentioned that the closing ceremony of Peparnas XVI Papua would be moved forward to November 13, 2021.

Information regarding the change in the schedule for the closing ceremony of Indonesia’s largest sports event for persons with disabilities has also been disseminated to stakeholders.

President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin are also confirmed to have been aware of this change and will then adjust their arrival time for the closing ceremony.

Back at the opening of Peparnas XVI Papua 2021, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has mentioned that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would come to Papua to officially close the sporting event on November 13, 2021.
